71 years of trusting God
Pastor Peter McLewin
On October 7th we will celebrate 71 years of ministry in Norfolk. From our beginnings in a home in 1943 God has taken us a mighty long way. Our members have traveled to all the continents of the world except Antarctica, and we have not given up on getting there
yet. We’re fairly sure one of our Homeschool Plus graduates will end up on a scientific trip to Antarctica; it just a matter of time!
This week I have been reading and meditating on Psalm 71. While we don’t know who the author is, clearly it is a person who has walked with the Lord for a long time and experienced hardships and victory. More than anything else, he lived for the next generation to know the power of God. It’s a great Psalm to pray over our church as we enter our 72nd year of ministry.
O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come. Psalm 71:17–18
I’m excited about the speaker who has agreed to share his testimony with us on our 71st anniversary. One day someone bumped into our speaker in the capital city where he lived. The man tore a few pages out of a Bible and gave them to him. Those pages contained the words of Jesus, “Love your enemies.” Our speaker spent the next years trying to understand what those words meant. Are you curious to know what happened next? Join us on October 7th to hear how God is using this man around the world. I have known him for many years and can tell you that every day people who listen to his messages receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. (See front page for details.) Bring your children with you; during the service we have Superbook Kids for ages 2-5 and Superbook Academy for ages 6-12. (See page 5.)
School of Preaching will resume on October 10th at 7:00pm at Ingleside. I will introduce the Old Testament Prophets and explain the relationship between the Major and Minor Prophets. Learn to be comfortable around the prophets who wrote the Old Testament! This school is open to everyone who is interested in learning to preach.
