Look to Jesus Christ

2017-07-23

Ice Breaker: To complete a difficult assignment, whom did you look to for answers when you were in high school? What questions did you ask?

Read Philippians 4:6-7

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1. What happens when you do not follow this passage?

Read Lamentations 3: 22-

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.

26 It is good that one should wait quietly

for the salvation of the Lord.

27 It is good for a man that he bear

the yoke in his youth.

2. When you have lost hope in a past situation, how long did you wait to seek support? Why?

Read Romans 8; 35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

3. With all the news of killings here in Tidewater, the nation and abroad, how do you initially respond when it comes close to you?

4. Where do your spiritual talk and spiritual walk meet?
