Life Notes: Oct. 9, 2016_”Don’t Go Back”

Life Notes for 10.9.16

Ice Breaker: When things get intense at work or at home what’s your favorite stress relief?

Read Colossians 2:16-17

What’s something you’ve been judged about that were mere “shadows” compared to Christ? What are some things you’ve struggled to not judge other people for?

How does being judged feel to you? How does judging feel?

Read Colossians 1:18 & 2:18-19

Did any of these “judgmental shadow” side issues things create an unnecessary barrier to Christ? How did that make you feel?

What are some of the consequence of “not holding fast to the Head”? What are some of the fruits of clinging to the Head that you’ve experienced? How does holding fast to Jesus help us release judgmentalism? What happens when a church body does this?

Read Colossians 2:20-23

Why do you think the church in America is perceived as judgemental (and before you get too judgemental remember we’re a church in America!)?

If we’ve been set free from legalism by Christ why do we go back to it?

What are some “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” topics that people preached that have no basis in Christ?

Do you find it surprising to hear the bible say these are useless? Why do these have “no value in stopping indulgence of the flesh”? If we can’t expect rules to be effective, what shall we instead turn to?

Spend some time repenting of legalism (if not personally, then on behalf of the church at large) and committing yourselves to loving people without rules
